My work is largely focused on exploring the alienation humans encounter with the natural world. The unique and ironic disconnection isolation between humans and the objects we create to mediate daily life is an outgrowth of the innate juxtaposition between human life and the built environment. As communities and
societies, we focus on the external world, overlooking the products of the human minds and hands that shape the environment we must negotiate each day. We invent machines—gadgets that include the latest fruit juicer or vacuum cleaner as well as the computer—and become dependent upon them for survival, yet have very little knowledge as to how they actually function. Seduced by the contradictory notion that our lives will become easier, we embrace each new iteration of these devices, leaving us more dependent and willing to relinquish control.
