WINE magazine - Shiraz Challenge 2004 To champion the production of quality Shiraz wines in South Africa, WINE magazine and sponsor TOPS at SPAR are proud to present the inaugural Shiraz Challenge. The results portend momentous things for South African wine. Never before have any of our noble category tastings yielded such a high percentage of wines of distinction. Michael Fridjhon, Challenge chairman, reports. It was a record tasting. No fewer than 162 wines from the 2001 and 2002 vintages were assessed for the newly launched WINE magazine TOPS at SPAR Shiraz Challenge. It superseded even the Shiraz submissions (140) to the Fairbairn Capital Trophy Wine Show held earlier this year. We are very proud to let you know, that the Eikendal Shiraz 2002 was awarded as one of the top Shiraz in that Challenge.
