Here in "Barbaria delle Tole" they once cut and "shaved off the beards (i.e. "BARBE") of trunks", to be used by many shipyards set on North lagoon for building up those typical lagoon boats. One of boat-races taking place in the city finished here. Crews were rewarded with flags of different colors in reason of order of placings and so they are now. The ceremony took place not far from today's restaurant, thus called "BANDIERETTE" ("little flags") and also "DA TIRACA", for original and ever changing "tirache" (Venetian name for "braces") worn by the old owner. The restaurant, managed by a family, offers a typical Venetian cooking based on fish, simple in preparation but accurate in choosing fresh food, carefully selectioned by the owners. On friday, do not lose th renowned "Stock Fish" 'mantecato', cream of dried salted cod to take away (only on booking). Daniele, Vladi, Anna e Adriana are waiting for offerng you pleasant and genuine evenings with good fish and axcellent wine, together with other native Venetian people. In the surroundings visit Campo SS. Giovanni e Paolo and its buildings: the Basilica, the front of Scuola Grande di S. Rocco, now, site of civil hospital and the church of S. Maria dei Derelitti. |
